Buddy Day

It takes a community to look after a child

How it works

Before their ‘big day out’ in the city,  ‘Buddies’ are dressed, decorated, and given a name and story by children from schools and childcare centres. The conversations with the kids are around what does a child needs to be happy and healthy, and have a sense of belonging….
As well as having hundreds of Buddies out and about in the city, Buddy Day plays out minute by minute online through Facebook and Twitter as Buddy ‘Carers’ share photos and stories of their experiences. Letting everyone know what their Buddy’s been up to throughout the day

Room 14 and Room 2 have been busy planning out the designs for our four buddy children.  Here are photos of us working in our groups and the designs of our buddies.  We are going to create a:

  • Summer beach loving child
  • Mexican exchange student
  • BMX'er
  • Soccer star

Healthy Lunchboxes

Today we had Claire from the Project team come and talk to us about healthy lunchboxes and why it is so important to choose foods that will give us good energy throughout out the day.
Claire told us about how our heart, bones, muscles, brains and kidneys need energy though out the day to help us stay strong and healthy.

She also told us about how important it to drink water throughout the day to help flush out the toxins from our kidneys.
We also discussed the kinds of food that would be awesome to put in our lunchboxes - we remember to 'Go, Grow, Glow!"

Doug Wilson - Our Special Book!

Today we had another email from our author friend Doug Wilson, (the author of the Tom Hassler series) to tell us that the special story he wrote about Room 14 has been sent to the publisher!  Woohoo, we are now waiting for a response from them, but have our fingers and toes crossed that they love it and are keen to publish it for the NZ market.  Doug has also said that if it does get published he would be happy to print 100 copies, with a fine tweak to make the school Vardon, to give to our school as a donation to use or sell how we saw fit, and with our class doing the cover art for this one off micro launch.  How exciting is that!!!!! We will now wait with baited breath to hear back from the publisher – we will let you know how we get on!
